BASIC TEN Flotilla Member Boating Skills

As far as Boat Operation Deck Hand Training … these are some of the basic skills we learn, just to keep our operations going. Every member at some point assists each other with one of these skills. We need to practice continually, even though they may seem basic to a long standing member, they could be alien to the newer member.

The basic ten boating skills are listed below. For a full description, there are master copies at the station or email Eloyes Hill at hillcorm@loretel.net

If you plan on becomming a watchstander, which all people in operations should do, go to http://WWW.USCG.mil/hq/cg3/cg3pcx/missions/TC-PQS.pdf to get the manual.

It is recommended that current watchstanders also review this material.

New Member Course Now Online

The New Member Course is now available online through Auxiliary eLearning, the Coast Guard Auxiliary online learning system. Prospective members can review the contents of the course and take the final exam online. A printout of the notification that they passed with 80 percent or better will suffice in lieu of the hard copy answer sheet currently required with the new member application. To access the course, go to eLearn sign-up at: http://64.207.134.26/usr/moodle2/login

New members will then need to set up an account on eLearn, for which there are directions in the opening page. Once you confirm the account (via an email message which will be sent to you) you will have access to eLearn and thus to the New Member course. No special password is required to access the course (but you will need to set up a password in the registration process

Contact the FSO-PE if you would like to teach a youth boating safety class in your area. Scout groups are often eager for this type of activity and the leaders can usually can help with the arrangements.

There are two Auxiliary Power Point classes already prepared for grades K-3 and 4-6 so teaching a class is easy. Plus it's fun, rewarding and not too time consuming.
